G 6 PD Deficiency in Two Autochthonous Croatian Families
نویسنده
چکیده
In Europe G6PD deficiency is encountered most frequently in Sardinia and Greece but may also be found in other Mediterranean countries (Sansone, Piga, and Segni, 1958; Szeinberg, Asher, and Sheba, 1958), including Yugoslavia (Fraser, Grunwald, and Stamatoyannopoulos, 1966). The occurrence of haemolytic anaemia after ingestion of fava beans in Yugoslavia was first reported as a clinical finding by Vince-Ribaric in 1962. The patients belonged to two autochthonous Croatian families from the vicinity of the town of Zadar on the Adriatic Coast. In the present study a full account is given of all the data obtained in the patients and their families.

متن کاملHyperbilirubinemia Following Exchange Transfusion with G-6-PD Deficient Donor Blood
Background: The incidence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency in Iran is estimated at 10-14.9%. The donor blood in blood banks is not screened routinely for this enzyme deficiency and such blood may be used for neonatal exchange transfusion. Objective: To study the effect of G-6-PD deficient blood in neonatal exchange blood transfusion. Methods: In a prospective study, serum...
متن کاملBirth control necessary to limit family size in tribal couples with aberrant heterosis of G-6-PD deficiency and sickle cell disorders in India: an urgency of creating awareness and imparting genetic counseling.
OBJECTIVES (i) To study the outcome of ignorance and lack of awareness about sickle cell disease and G-6-PD deficiency among Dhelki Kharia tribal families of Orissa, and (ii) to study the reproductive output in relation to clinical genetics and patho-physiological implications. METHODOLOGY A random genetic study of screening for hemoglobinopathies and G-6-PD deficiency among Dhelki Kharia tri...
متن کاملTwo Novel CYP11B1 Gene Mutations in Patients from Two Croatian Families with 11β-Hydroxylase Deficiency
Steroid 11 β -hydroxylase deficiency (11 β -OHD) is the second most common cause of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Mutations in the CYP11B1 gene, which encodes steroid 11 β -hydroxylase, are responsible for this autosomal recessive disorder. Here, we describe the molecular genetics of two previously reported male siblings in whom diagnosis of 11 β -OHD has been established based on their hormo...
متن کاملGenetic diversity of the "Mediterranean" glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency phenotype.
Genetic diversity of the "Mediterranean" phenotype of G-6-PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) deficiency was revealed when detailed studies were performed on blood specimens from 79 Greek males with G-6-PD levels 0-10% of normal. Four different mutants were found to be responsible for the severely deficient phenotypes: two mutants. G-6-PD U-M (Union-Markham) and G-6-PD Orchomenos, were disti...
